Roost is a compass app that points toward your saved locations. This policy explains what data the app uses and how it is handled.
Roost uses your device's GPS and compass to calculate the direction and distance to your saved locations. Location data is processed entirely on-device and is never transmitted to any server, stored in the cloud, or shared with third parties.
Location names and coordinates you save in the app are stored locally on your device using iOS system storage. This data does not leave your device except to sync between your paired iPhone and Apple Watch via Apple's Watch Connectivity framework, which operates on-device and through Apple's infrastructure.
The free tier of Roost displays advertisements provided by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect and use data to show personalised ads, subject to your consent via Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. You can opt out at any time through iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
For more information on how Google uses data in advertising, see Google's advertising policy.
Ads are removed permanently when you purchase the Roost unlock.
The 3D compass feature uses your device's accelerometer and gyroscope via CoreMotion to tilt the compass display. Sensor data is used only in real time to animate the view and is never stored or transmitted.
In-app purchases are processed entirely by Apple via StoreKit. Roost does not collect or store any payment information.
Roost does not include any third-party analytics or crash reporting SDKs. No usage data is collected by the developer.
Roost does not knowingly collect any data from children under 13.
If this policy changes materially, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a revised date.
Questions about this policy can be sent to the developer via the App Store support link on the Roost app page.
